Primary Birthing Units and Small Maternity Hospitals

A growing body of evidence shows that birthing in a primary setting, i.e. either a home birth or a birth in a primary birthing unit is the most important choice women, who want to avoid unnecessary interventions during labour and birth, can make. Unfortunately, not all NZ women have this option, and Primary Birthing Units are under threat in some areas.
